William Gary Kessler

October 28, 1971 — July 27, 2025

Pocatello

William Gary “Bill” Kessler was born October 28, 1971, to John William Kessler and Melody Dawn Egbert in Pocatello, Idaho. Bill spent most of his early years in Pocatello with a short time in Twin Falls, Idaho and Ft. Bridger, Wyoming.

Bill’s sister Selena was born in 1975 and in 1976 Bill’s parents divorced. In 1982 Bill’s mother married Bruce Wallace Murdock, and Bruce was Bill and Selena’s father for the last 43 years of his life. Bruce brought three step siblings to Bill and Selena’s life (Sarah, Lance, and Curtis Murdock), and in 1983 a new half-sister, Heather Murdock.

Bill was plagued by health issues the majority of his life, which included multiple surgeries, years of dialysis (hemo and peritoneal), two kidney transplants – one lasted 20 years and he was waiting for his third, a brain aneurism, heart attacks, stents in his heart and more. Despite the many health challenges, Bill maintained and loved his independence.

But Bill was a fighter and tried his best not to let the health issues keep him down. He did as many things as he could in his life, sometimes even when he probably shouldn’t. Bill loved the outdoors, working in his yard and growing flowers and a garden. He loved his animals and friends. Bill always loved a good debate – if you know him, you know what we mean! Bill struggled with his short-term memory after his aneurism, but he had a better long-term memory than any of us. Throughout his life he worked as a handy-man and worked with Bannock County Search & Rescue for eight years.

Bill gave up his fight on July 27, 2025. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Melody and Bruce Murdock; stepmother, Carie Kessler; sister, Selena (Patrick) Grace; half-sister, Heather Murdock; stepsister, Sarah Murdock; stepbrothers, Lance (Heidi) Murdock and Curtis (Tracey) Murdock; as well as half-siblings, Troy (Jena) Kessler, John (Jasmine) Kessler Jr. and Amy (Dominic) Kessler; as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, John Kessler; all of his grandparents; and his beloved dog, Tiny.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, ID. A viewing will be held prior beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S 5th Avenue, Pocatello, ID.
