William N. Harwood, 87, of Pocatello passed away on March 17 th at The Gables Assisted Living. Bill was born on November 23, 1928 in Pocatello. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1946 and promptly enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon discharge from the Navy, he began his undergraduate degree at Idaho State University. It was here that Bill met his first wife, Helen Ruth Jones Harwood. Bill and Helen had two sons, Noel Brent and Michael, and the family moved to Boise upon Bills graduation where Bill taught Journalism at Boise and Borah High Schools. After completing his Masters Degree at Idaho State University, Bill began his 47 year career in News and Publications with the University. Bill was particularly proud of the publication of a textbook, Writing and Editing School News , he authored in 1977. If you happened to know Bill at this time, you could count on finding your name in the example news stories within the book! After Helens death in 1981, Bill married Evelyn (Dea Dea) Harwood. Bill and Dea Dea shared a passion for golfing and for the Pocatello Elks Club. The couple enjoyed attending Elks Club Conventions throughout the state and never missed a chance to play a round of golf. Bill held a number of offices in the Elks Club, including Exalted Ruler and most recently, Chaplain. Bill is survived by his two sons, Noel Brent Harwood and Michael Harwood (Jan) of Pocatello; his two step children, Todd Skeen (Sandy Young) of Salmon and Angie Skeen French of Shelley; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and his sister, Carolyn Nicolin . He was preceded in death by his wife, Dea Dea Harwood, and his brother, Bob Harwood. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 10-11 AM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave., Pocatello, with Military Honors to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial services will begin at 12 noon at the Elks Lodge, 410 S. Main Street, Pocatello, with a reception to follow also at the Elks Lodge.
